“People sometimes say the way things happen in the movies is unreal, but actually, it’s the way things happen to you in life that’s unreal.” In relation to this quote of Andy Warhol, I present 5 movies about artists which are worth watching.

1. Pollock (2000)

Pollock depicts the life of American abstract expressionist painter Jackson Pollock. Pollock (portrayed by Ed Harris, who also directed the film and earned a Best Actor Oscar nomination) was known for his drip paintings, which have become some of the most expensive works ever sold.

2. La belle noiseuse (1991)

The former famous painter Frenhofer revisits an abandoned project using the girlfriend of a young visiting artist. In the film questions about truth, life, and artistic limits are explored.

3. Basquiat (1996)

Basquiat is a film on the brief life of Jean Michel Basquiat, a world renowned New York street artist struggling with fame, drugs and his identity.

4. Big Eyes (2014)

Big Eyes tells the story of Margaret Keane, an artist who went unrecognized for years because her husband, Walter, took all the credit.

5. Séraphine (2008)

A film based on the life of French painter Séraphine de Senlis.
